For the past few election cycles, it seems Americans have been forced to choose between two candidates that they don’t especially like. “This is the best America can do?” we sometimes think.
If one really wanted to understand the policies of both candidates, then the Democratic and Republican platforms are readily available for perusal. But most Americans aren’t familiar with party platforms, glean what they can from debates and interviews, and choose their candidates for reasons beyond policy.
For the moment, let’s focus on a few pluses, beyond policy, these candidates offer:
- They dress well. Kamala Harris and Donald Trump know how to rock a suit.
- Their spouses stuck with them. Despite all the political angst and Covid bumps in the road, Doug Emhoff and Melania Trump stayed with their spouses.
- They both have a sense of humor. You may or may not like their sense of humor, but they both know how to find humor in a situation.
- They signed up for the job. Who in the world would want to be the president at this time in American history? These two volunteered.
- They appear to be in good health. Kamala likes Doritos and Trump goes for McDonalds, but they both seem physically capable of enduring four years as president.
Can you think of other positives for the both of them?
